Hart Resource Technologies, Inc. (HRT) is taking on the challenge of meeting the waste water disposal needs of our customers in the natural gas industry while complying with regulations established and enforced by the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
For this purpose, HRT was established as a Pennsylvania Corporation and is located in the former Carl White Mine Water Treatment Facility on Route 110 West, eight miles North of Indiana, PA. HRT has been operating at the facility since 1985 as a private business for commercial treatment of fluids generated during the drilling and production of natural gas and oil wells, and was previously involved in the manufacture and sale of salt and calcium chloride derived from this treatment.

As an added benefit, we also offer our customers comprehensive monthly, quarterly, or yearly reports detailing the quantities, location, and types of fluids delivered to our facility for processing. These reports are extremely helpful when completing the Annual Well and Production Reports, and Form 26R, as required by DEP.
The disposal of these fluids in an economical and environmentally safe manner has been a major problem for the natural gas industry in Pennsylvania. Such fluids contain sodium and calcium salts, oil, barium, strontium, iron, numerous heavy metals, soap, radiation and other components, some of which may be harmful if discharged untreated into the environment. HRT strives to be the most convenient disposal facility providing the least liability to the customer, at the lowest possible cost.
HRT treats fracturing (frac) fluids and production (brine) fluids as two separate waste streams, to insure a high quality discharge. Crude oil is initially removed from untreated fluids, followed by chemical flocculation and pH adjusted chemical precipitation. The clarified fluids are discharged to a stream and the solids resulting from the treatment are processed through a filter press and landfilled as a non-hazardous residual waste. In addition, treated brine is sold for deicing and other applications that utilize calcium chloride. HRT holds the advantage over other treatment facilities in that we are able to deal more efficiently with problem fluids containing low pH, high solids, or crude oils.
Since 1985 the staff at HRT has maintained the necessary permitting required by Pennsylvania DEP's Bureaus of Oil and Gas Management, Water Management, and Residual Waste. NPDES Permit # PA0095443 allows HRT to discharge 18,000 GPD of treated brine fluids and 45,000 GPD of treated fracturing/drilling fluids to McKee Run. The company is responsible for monitoring and providing biweekly analyses from an independent laboratory to maintain a discharge within permit limitations. DEP inspectors also make periodic visits to verify discharge quality and method of operation. HRT has an excellent compliance history with DEP and we invite you to contact them about our reputation.
